Frontroom

What is the Frontroom?

WCUW FrontroomThe WCUW Frontroom is a community-run performance venue and event space located inside the WCUW 91.3 FM radio station at 910 Main Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. It is designed as an intimate, “living room” style space for local arts and community gatherings of up to 75 people.

Here is what makes it unique:
1. A hub for independent cinema
The Frontroom serves as the screening room for Cinema Worcester. It functions as a cozy micro-cinema showing:
• Independent and foreign films.
• Documentaries and cult classics.
• The annual Oscar Nominated Shorts.

2. Live performances and events
Beyond movies, the space is a versatile community cultural center. It regularly hosts:
• Live music: Acoustic sets, jazz, blues, and more.
• Art display: The walls of the Frontroom feature Rose LeBeau’s rock icon paintings from an exhibit that was held in the station’s Harold Stevens Gallery.

3. Community “Living Room”
True to its community radio roots, the Frontroom is available for private rentals and public use. WCUW promotes it as a space for:
• Birthday parties, celebrations of life, and fundraisers.
• All-ages events and neighborhood meetings.
• Collaborative projects with local NGOs and artists.

We are please to announce that Rose LeBeau- who’d previously showed in our Harold Stevens Gallery- has her original gouache paintings of cultural and rock icons now gracing the FrontRoom walls.

They make the room just so much cooler!

We’ve had a Bob Dylan and a Jimi Hendrix already leave the nest to new owners.

All pieces are for sale, and there are more in Rose’s home gallery, so her works will continue to grace our space.

You can find her work on Facebook and Instagram.

For private events, we have affordable rates: $50/hour for WCUW members; $100/hour for non-members. Four-hour minimum.

Email Gail Hunt (event coordinator) at [email protected] or [email protected] for more info.

Hometown Heroes: Gail and Dan Hunt!

Hometown Heroes“Hometown Heroes” are nominated by Worcester Magazine readers. Gail and Dan were nominated for “revitalizing WCUW and making it a destination for cultural activities.”

Since it reopened late last year, the Frontroom at WCUW Community Radio at 910 Main St. has become one of Worcester’s most increasingly popular yet intimate venues for music.

WCUW is a destination for filmgoers and art-lovers as well, with Cinema Worcester also in the Frontroom and the Howard Stevens Gallery literally a couple of steps away right on the premises.

Gail and Dan Hunt have helped play a big part in WCUW’s new look, from creating the gallery to making the Frontroom feel and sound great, as well as helping to book and get the word out about its concerts featuring rock, blues, jazz and more.

We’d like to thank the Fletcher Foundation for allowing greater exposure via new street signage, a much brighter projector and new sound, and a new front door.
